NDP candidate Don Davies wants housing on RCMP site
By Carlito Pablo. February 21, 2008. The Georgia Straight.

Excerpt:

The site of the RCMP E Division headquarters in Vancouver—bigger than the Little Mountain Housing complex—is an ideal location for affordable housing, according to Don Davies, federal NDP candidate for Vancouver Kingsway.

The RCMP administrative headquarters for British Columbia is moving to Surrey. This will free up 8.5 hectares of federally owned land on Heather Street on the west side of Vancouver, which is part of Davies’s riding.

“Ninety percent of Vancouver is market housing,” Davies told the Straight. “We have very, very little land available. The entire site should be dedicated to affordable housing.”

So, the race is on for NDP nomination in Vancouver-Kingsway

In the interest of fairness I've searched high & low for any kind of challenges, or questionable, or concerning issues related to Don Davies and his run to be the next candidate in Vancouver-Kingsway and couldn't find a thing. What I found was a candidate who lives in the riding, has been involved with different community groups and is well thought of by those who have met, or worked with him.

Although he went into the legal profession, instead of going into other types of law, such as corporate where he could make truckloads of $$$, he's spent much of his career representing the interests of working class people. There is an integrity to that that can't be denied and is something voters should think about when they go to cast their ballots.

Mr. Davies and his family live in the Vancouver-Kingsway riding and his involvement in the school of his children is also an important consideration as it speaks to his character. Anyone who has spent time volunteering with the PAC of their children's school can tell you this is where the rubber hits the road about a person's commitment to their children and the larger community.

It's easy to sit on boards with higher profiles and status, or on committees and executives within political parties, but show me someone who is doing the grunt work in the trenches of their kids schools and in the community and I'll point out someone who has the on-the-ground experience of the issues impacting the members of the community of all ages, different economic backgrounds and diverse cultural communities.

Action speaks louder than words and promises. Lets all remember that on October 14th.
